Re: 5hp montgomery ward
Two choices: live the with the current color or strip off the topcoats and repaint. Paint stripper or old-fashioned spray on oven cleaner will take it back down to factory primer or further if you want (follow label directions). Then you clean it, degrease it and apply self-etching primer. Some just rough up the surface of the existing paint with fine sandpaper or steel wool, then repaint. You have to be spotlessly clean in the prep, or any fingerprints, smudges, etc. will ruin your new color topcoat. You can find a close match to the original color using Duplicolor or Tempo auto paint from parts stores...just make sure you use one brand for primer, color and clearcoats...not all paint chemistry between brands is compatible. Not that hard to do, just takes time.
acmeoutboards.com has an owners manual/guide for those Sea Kings. They are nice, simple, reliable, stout little motors once you get the kinks worked out. Good luck...post some pix.
