Hi,

We have a 5HP. Sea King. Montgomery Ward Model 15GG-9015 Serial # 396597 which has rested for some time. We cleaned it up and it runs fine but leaks fuel around the shutoff valve. Is there a gasket that may have deteriorated or been removed from that area or would the problem be the shutoff valve itself? Thanks. Appreciate your help. judson

It is a 1951 by Gale. There is a packing. If I remember correctly, it is a leather washer. Part number is 551097 and it is listed as still available. People have used all kinds of stuff as an alternative to getting the right part---string, teflon, gasket paper, o-ring, you name it, it's been tried.

But first, try tightening the packing nut. Loosen the large jam nut, then tighten the smaller nut a bit, while trying the shut-off knob so you don't get it too tight. Then lock again it by tightening the large jam jut. If it won't tighten, you will have to replace the packing.
