I have a 1990 evinrude 6 hp which I've been working for a long time. And when I started it up this year, it overheated . I then took the water pump apart. I found the impeller pretty well disintergrated with a lot of material melted to the inside of the outlet going to the water tube . In fact the melted material was blocking the outlet to the water tube,I then cleaned this outlet up real good. I tried the motor and got no water cooling . I then ran a wire hanger up the water tube and felt some resistance. which later was released by running the wire up the tube. I now feel metal when i run the wire up and down the tube, but the motor continues to not have water cooling, can I have a blockage in the powerhead water jacket?? Any insight which you can relay to me would be appreciated.

try weed whacker line, or "jerry rig" your garden hose to the feed tube. you will more than likely have to do more work if the pump was in that bad of shape tho. also have a good look at the intake screen for restriction there.

You could have some water pump pieces wedged up in the power head in a critical passage.
