I have a couple of old Johnson's 6 HP. Can you tell me what ranges of compression would be acceptale for these motors? What was compression when new etc.? Thanks. :)

I have a '65 6HP myself. But no manual (yes I have no manual - but you should get one ;) )

Did a search here for: compression 6hp
Several topics found. One top reading was 83 and two other got 80. That gives you an idea, right?

The important thing is that the are equal or within 5-10%.

Hope it helps.

Also, keep in mind that every gauge is different. It's more important to have them relatively even than extremely high....
- Scott
