6 HP Johnson loses power

I have a 1979 6 hp Johnson which has been stored for 7-8 years. I replaced the impeller and it started and idles fine. When it's opened up to full throttle, however, it loses power (thrust) after a few seconds, though it continues running at high rpms. After operating at low speed for awhile, I can open it back up and it will gain speed, only to again lose power. Someone suggested checking the head bolts, and they are all tight. Any ideas on what I can do to address the problem???? Thanks for any tips!

Hi Ho, DaveO.<br /><br />If your engine goes fast and your boat doesn't you have probably spun your prop.<br /><br />Take it to a prop shop to be re-hubbed.<br /><br />Good luck.
