The information may be stamped on a welch plug on the side of the block. It would be silver and about the size of a 50 cent piece.

That number tells me nothing.<br />I don't know if it is the same carb for the whole range from 1965-1979.<br />There is one kit for 1954-79(?), for 1968 and for 1984-85, according to this site:<br /> http://www.tenkillermarine.com/boatparts/default.asp <br /><br />This is a 1966 6HP:<br /> http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/j_1966/seite_07.jpg <br />This is a 1968 6HP:<br /> http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/j_1968/seite_20_21.jpg <br /><br />You'll find all 6HP model numbers 1965-1979 here:<br /> http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/johnson.html <br /><br />I hope this helps.<br />If you tell us the colours and if you got a two or three blade prop we might narrow down the year a bit.

Re: 6 hp johnson with no info plate

the 66 model looks close. i can't tell what color the outside of the motor is. someone painted it a nice metallic blue.thats probably why the plate is gone.the block and surrounding area inside is medium gray. the hood is white. there are three decals on the side, one is the seahorse logo, then the johnson name and then a burgee with a 6 in it.this is where i assumed it was a 6hp.it has a three bladed prop.f.n.r. shifting. throttle on the steering arm.it has the lean-rich knob on the front, which i have no idea how many turns out it should have been when i reassembled the carb.(forgot to count when i backed it out...sigh). not sure how to use it when the motor is running.the motor also has a 4 position trim.wow i hope this helps.the little guy runs sweet when the needle is unstuck.......sid

Re: 6 hp johnson with no info plate

I'd say it is a 1965 or 1966. I have a 1965 model. Same colours, and all the rest as you described. Except the three blade prop. I have the two blade but yours can have been replaced.<br />I don't know the colours of the 1967 model. Could be the same as ours or like the 1968 model. Since the 1968 model has a different carb kit than the older ones (according to the link above.)the change of colour occured the same year. I don't know, just guessing here.
