6 hp tiller lower unit replacement

I changed out the water pump now I cant seem to get the lower unit to line up . I have done it 3 other times over the years with no problem ,I bet I got about 15 hrs. in trying this. first time it went right together then i noticed that the shift linkage was wrong so i pulled it back apart. Now I cant get it to go back together please help!

Did you try turning the flywheel by hand while pushing the LU into place. Sometimes the splines aren't quite aligned and that usually helps.
