I've had this Lark II for a few years, and decided to try it out since my other motor went south. Previous owner told me that when it warms up it misses. I took it out tonight and found out what he was talking about. It doesn't feel like a miss in the motor, it feels like it jumps a tooth in the transmission every once in a while. It kind of clunks. Kind of regular like about every 10 seconds more or less. Is it possible there might be a tooth off a gear or something going on in the transmission causing this?

Not a missing tooth. But it is a very well known problem. The clutch dog and forward gear are worn out. It is forcing itself out of gear, rotating half a turn, and slamming back into gear---till the next time.

Well, if that is the case, I'll try to make one out of two.
I have the '59 35hp which I mentioned in another thread, that has a crack near the skeg and was full of water. I took it apart tonight and all is ok inside. I must have hit something to crack it. I don't recall ever leaving that motor out in the cold after I first got it running.
I think I'll use the lower unit from the 35 and put the skeg on from the lower unit of the 40. Can you do that, or are they machined together as a set?
