I have an '83 60 hp Evinrude that is regularly blowing the 25 Amp fuse on the motor - I discovered the the fuse holder is rather loose and the fuse sits loosely in it. Could there be any other reason for blowing the fuse?

How is the fuse blowing?

Is it just seperated in the middle?

Or has it vaporized, leaving no fuse wire visible, and maybe some traces of copper on the inside of the glass?

This will tell us if it's just having a bit too much current go through it, or alot too much.

The fuse is separating in the middle - the rest of the fuse wire is clearly visible.

Check the wire for any areas that could be making contact w/ground, also that should be a 20 amp 32 volt fuse.

Mike :)

A lot of the time it ends up being the choke solenoid, that is if you have electric choke.

To find the cause use a fused meter which can measure DC amps, set to the proper scale, and connect it in series with the fuse holder. You can then narrow down the cause of the excess current flow by disconnecting various components (such as the electric choke), and accessories such as lights, radios, fishfinders, etc...
Like MCM said the fuse should be a 20 amp, it sounds like someone did the old put in a bigger fuse trick.
