60 hp 3 cylinder, how to determine year

I just picked up a nice "Brown Stripe" Merc 3 cylinder from storm ravaged south Florida. Motor wasn't hurt other than the hinges on the back of the cowl. I can't find a serial number tag. Is there another way to determine the year of manufacture?

1984&5 are the only years they used brown. Close enough? Otherwise there may be a welch plug on the powerhead with the serial number.
