Ok, anyone want to take a stab at this?
It died the other day on the river. Only running on one cylinder. No power. Dies when I try to rev it up.
I put in new plugs and checked the points, and verified the flywheel hasn't shifted.
I just tried it and it pops and backfires like it's out of time. Any suggestions.

Will do.
I know one cylinder is low from checking it last year. Been running fine all along though.

There's some wierd stuff going on.

There's some wierd stuff going on.

I got the compression readings. First, here is what the compression was in October of 2008 the last time I checked it. #1 135, #2 165, #3 160. Now after running it for a year I have #1 140, #2 155, #3 155. Only had it out twice this year. I checked that cold.
It's dark while I was doing this. The first thing I noticed was some sparks jumping from the back side of the coil to the ground.
Next, I put all the plugs in the wires and turned it over several times. Good spark on all plugs, but, occasionaly when I let off the key a plug would continue to fire non stop, kind of like an arc welder. A good solid blue arc. Also heard the same sound coming from under the flywheel occasionally. Maybe the points frying?
Also, it makes a spark "pop" sound from under the flywheel when the key is hit.
Checked again. The spark "pop" sound from under the flywheel may be the starter.
Also, this time saw sparks jumping from the sparkplug wire ends under the flywheel, to the ground.
Anyone know what might be going on here?

If you have spark jumping from a coil to ground, you need to replace the coil.
Could you list your model number, hard to help if we don't know what engine we are working on.

A 60hp Evinrude Triumph would be a 1970 or 1971 model, with battery-CD ignition.

Sorry, I've forgotten more than I remember about it, but in the past I had identified it as a 1970 triumph 60hp. I'm pretty sure there was a model or serial number on it, but that was a couple years ago when I saw it. I don't remember where that was located.
