Hello I would like some ideas... I have a 60hp 1986 evinrude and I was told to mix my gas at 100 to 1 just in case the VRO Pump fails ....Any opinions on the sudgestion ve3ulf@falls.igs.net

G'Day. It seems a bit pointless to have an oil injection system and mixing the oil too, A bit like owning a dog and barking yourself :D If it was mine I would disconnect the system and premix at 50:1 as the VRO system was very unreliable. If you want to keep the system then check the oil leval regularly. Later model VRO systems had a warning siren if the pump stopped operating, this could backfit to your motor. Go9od luck

I used to have a 1986 VRO Johnson, my suggestion is plug the pump and pre-mix at 50:1. I had two pumps in 3 years with this engine and back then OMC just didn't do it right. <br /><br />It was the 2nd year of VRO for J and E and it was terrible. Also, back then even the engines were equipped with warning buzzers if the VRO pump failed, however the warning buzzer didn't always work.<br /><br />Tully Mars
