hi,

1990 j60elesm was running ok but now is getting bogged down when on the water,
idles fine , revs up fine and takes off fine. only thing is after 30 secs - 1 min it bogs and will only plough through the water at about 4 knts. Every now and then it will regain it's normal function and go as it should but this could take 5 mins or 20 mins and will only last fo rthe 30 secs -1 min.

Have had the carbs apart twice and are cleaned through, checked fuel tank and lines, changed spark plugs, lync and sync done too

As it runs fine at the start and picks up every so often I guess it's an electrical issue. Have grounded the spark plugs and am getting a good spark.

Any help greatly accepted.

It sounds like it runs properly at times so that should indicate your compression is ok. You can use a timing light and see if you are loosing spark on a cylinder when the problem happens, that will eliminate the ign system. The only thing left is fuel, when you had the carbs apart did you remove and check the high speed orifices?

i did everything with the carbs except change the welch plugs, could be prob lie here??
Also have never even seen a timing light let alone know what to do with one. Can you explain how ot use one and I'll check at a few places over here to see if they stock them. if not i'll go on flea bay and see if I can pick one up.
