60 hp johnson not charging.

Hey Guy's,<br /> Need help tracking down charging problem on a 19 70 60 hp hydroelectric shift engine.The engine starts and runs fine but I don't know were to check for the charging system.Any one know wire codes ,colors etc.how many volts over 12 should it put out.Thanks Mike

Put a volt meter across your battery before starting and record voltage. Start motor and idle up around 1500-2000 rpm and check voltage. No change = not charging. Check the output side of the rectifier to look for charge. Possibilities for not charging include magnets,stator,rectifier, and condition of the connections. your manual will have a troubleshooting section to check these components.<br />Good luck
