I am replaceing the trim motor on a 1994 60 hp merc. This is a two wire system. I am only going to trim it up from the console of my pontoon. Is this just a simple, reverse the polarity type thing to make the motor turn clockwise and counterclockwise to raise and lower the motor. When I tore out the old stuff it had a relay. Do I really need this to raise and lower from only one position?

You need the relays, the motor draws too much amperage for the switch and wires.

The relays are about 20.00. They have two big posts for the starter motor and two small posts for 12v and ground that pull in the big ones. You would toast a switch without them.
