2002 carburated 4 stroke. Just had motor serviced, carbs cleaned. Asked shop to check motor carefully as we were considering keeping or trading. After cleaning carbs and installing new impeller, shop pronounced motor in good shape. Used boat last weekend, started and ran flawlessly.

Take it out this am, difficult to start, smoked profusely and ran very rough when it finally started, oil or gas slick on the water around motor, motor stalled and will not restart.

Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Update-got the motor restarted...very rough idle, gas exiting exaust. Smooths out at 3K to 4K RPMs but back to very rough idle and gas exit issue when pulled back to idle speed.

Shop not open today, any ideas on what to check? Spark plug wires tight and new spark plugs recently installed. What seems most strange is it ran fine last week after servicing and will barely run at all now.

not strange at all
most likly debris from the fuel lines and pump have fouled the carbs again.
when I do carbs on fourstrokes now I replace the pump diaphram and replace all the fuel lines under the hood.
once the fuel line drys take a flashlight and look down the line. if you see a yellowish deposit the lines are nasty and will need replacing.
