Hello Everyone,

I am wondering what is the range of compression in those 3-cylinder engines? What is considered a lower limit?
I could not find anything in the manuals.
Also, what is the difference between an 60ESL70 and 60ESL70B?

Thanks, Peter

Re: 60ESL70 Compression

Look for over 100psi and all three in a 10% range.

Re: 60ESL70 Compression

The compression numbers are rarely printed because of the variation in motors. The main concern is the differences between the cylinders and not so much the numbers themselves. Ideally, a 10% difference is the maximum. I'm guessing the numbers in your motor should be around 100 - 120lbs each.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the replies!
Interestingly, Chrysler manuals list all their compression ratios for their outboards.

Difference between the 2 models is production run.

That motor started life as 160psi motor, so you can do the math on the level of wear...

Presuming, you're using a quality gauge and a good battery.
