Information for 60 hp clamshell owners
I Just lost a 60hp three cylinder twin carb engine due to a sand bank.
got briefly grounded on a sand bank, fought the boat off by trimming up and working the steering from side to side, eventually got free but no water out and the overheat alarm sounding, stopped and cooled off, when I restarted water out was restored.
a few days later went out for a fast run, cooling seemed fine, then stopped to do a spot of fishing, the engine became difficult to start, wouldnt idle and sounded rough, I managed to get home.
Stripped out the water jacket cover and found sand around the lower cylinder, opened up the side to find broken rings and heavy scoring. The water had been circulating fine but obviously bypassing the lower cylinder due to sand build up, flushing hadn't cleared the sand either.

Welcome to Iboats:welcome: & sorry for your lose :rip:

I believe they were cooled from the #3 up so all cylinders would of ran hot.
(it would help if you mentioned the year/serial# of the motor)
