Hello,<br />I tried to remove the gear case by removing all bolts on the unit. The gear case housing just dropped about 1/8 inch. I ordered a "Clymer's Shop Manual 1956-1972" and it told me to remove the shift rod screw but failed to show where this screw located. If anyone had any idea, please help! Your help is very appreciated.

HI, Your motor should be an electric shift motor and therfore does not have a shift rod screw. On the port side of the motor, down inside the cowling, near the bottom of the powerhead, next to the exhaust cover, you should see a wire coming up thru plate. Follow the wire and disconnect the two connectors. One should have a green band, the other a blue band. Next, tie a long (4') piece of string (fishing line)to the connectors, tie the other end off on the motor. Spray a lubricant on the cable where it will go thru the hole. Pull the gearcase down. The cable should pull out of the hole. Disconnec thte string and let it sit, while you service the gearcase. WHen you go to put it back together use the string to guide the cable back up into the hole. After the cable is thru the hole, pull the cable itself, to set it in the correct location.

Hello Iceman,<br />I thank you very much my friend. Your input gave me confident to tap the gear case and it just came out. It took me almost a week to battle this problem. I feel great! Thanks again. :)

Did you put a string on the cable? If not, try to get the string down thru the hole, this will help get the cable back up thru it. Trust me, it really helps.

Hello Iceman,<br /><br />Yes, I did exactly as you suggested. I found out that the water pump was completely damaged due to clogging in the pipes. I called almost every shop in Austin and found the South Austin Mariner who took special order for $70.00. Parts will come by Wednesday and I will go fishing with my son again next Friday. Thanks again my friend and have a great boating.
