Hi Mark!

Check for lose or coroded wire on back of guage. If this looks good then check for ohm reading on wires. what ever the reading remember it. then change position of the motor up or down, take new ohm reading if your geting a change in reading, then its likley a bad guage.

If theirs no change then its the sending unit on cylinder that needs looking into.

Re: 60hp vro trim guage

You can test the gauge simply by having the key in the ON position, then running a small jumper wire from the "S" (sensor) terminal of the gauge to a ground.

If the above pegs the gauge to the up position, the gauge is okay.

With the key ON, there should be 12v leading to the "I" terminal of the gauge.

NOTE.... The title of "60hp VRO" says nothing. Always list the Make, Hp, and Year.

Raise the engine and check to see if the PTT gauge sender is stuck. Find the sender connector, disconnect it, then check it with an ohm meter. You should get a smooth reading from one end of the sender arm travel to the other. If it is stuck, has dead spots in it readings, or jumps in its reading, replace the sender.
