Hello,
I did a search for "evinrude tachometer" and got a few hits. I ran accross a post made by Lark40 that said he was going to put a Tiny-Tach on his '60 Lark 40. I was just wondering if it was ever done and if it worked. I have a '61 Lark III 40 HP that I'd like to put a tach on. I tried last year and it seems that I was running into trouble trying to find the right tach for this application. I've got three different props for this motor and I'd REALLY like to have a tach available so I can evaluate the performance of each prop and decide which one is going to work best for my all around use.

So, I quess this question is directed at Lark40.
If you see this, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if you did install the tiny-tach and if you did, how it works.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

I did install a TinyTach and it works great.

Make sure you speak with a tech when you call your order in. That is needed to properly identify which model will match the firing-per-revolution pattern of our engines.

I ordered a longer lead (14') with mine for a small extra price. Was told to wrap the lead around both plug wires.

I highly recommend the TinyTach.

The only thing I don't like about the tiny tach is the battery that can't e changed-out.Lithium bats last for 3-5 years, but after that, you need to do surgery on the tach, or buy a new one.

Thanks guys.

12footer, I noticed that too. I don't think I want to be spending $50 every 3-5 years to replace my tach. I think I might just go with an analog unit. Besides, I noticed the specs on that tiny-tach and it says that it only updates every 2.5 seconds. I think I'd rather go analog.

Thanks again for your input guys !

What do you in mind when you say you want an analog unit?

You have a magneto ignition two cycle two cylinder engine with one set of points for each cylinder.

No exactly a generic Chevy V-8 configuration.

I researched many other boards, and TinyTach was the only currently made permanently installed product that could measure these engines. There were some handheld products made for dirt bikes.

Let me know what you plan to use.

Re: '61 Lark III 40 HP tach question

Hello Lark40

Now that I think about it I think you're right. That is exactly the problem I ran into last year when I was trying to find a tach that would work with this mill. I guess if the tiny-tach works, I'll probably just go that route. I think I'm going to call them tomorrow and order one. I'll get the measurements I need and order enough wire so that I can mount the tach up on my console. Thanks again.
