Some of you guys would cry if you saw this boat. I'll bring a tear to your eyes when I figure out how to post some pics.

The previous owner, removed the windshield and cut out the bow, leaving just enough for a make shift console, supported with a couple of PT 2x4's. It looks like he used a can opener to cut it.

I believe I'll be able to redesign the bow to look similar to Huron Anglers 79' SS

I started out to just buy the rotary helm he was parting out, for a boat build I was going to start in March, but he made me an offer of 5 gas tanks in good condition, one of them full of gas that's only 3 weeks old, a battery, a nearly new TryFinder Eagle fish finder, and 8 rod holders that are screwed into the boat.

After seeing how nice the actual hull was, I gave him 400.00 for all of it.

Thanks to this site, I've been able to see what I'll be in for. You guys are generous with your information, and I thank all of you.

As a former Jupiter owner, I probably will cry :) But let's see those pictures anyway! They are good hulls and you can build whatever you want on there. The SS consoles certainly aren't anything complicated so I'm sure you'll have no trouble replicating them.

Hey - the beauty of SC is once you gut them - they all look the same. My Holiday looked great - but upon further review, the motor was toast, the seats and floor were rotted and I am stripping the whole thing anyway.

I see someone did the front from a regular to a CC. There is a site www.brunnerent.com that has all sorts of aluminum profiles to clean up the edges.

Good Luck!

Hey Bob, welcome to the club:)

I'm honored that you want your rig to resemble my 16' SS and EZ is correct in saying the task is a manageable one. These old hulls are practically begging to be rebuilt and they are solidly built from the factory to say the least.

I can help you out as far as the original structure(windshield, consoles, bow seating boxes, etc.) is concerned by taking some photos of areas you are lacking so just let me know.

Did the rig come with an outboard? If not at least you are all set as far as gas tanks:D

Good luck and feel free to ask away if you've got ?'s

Re: 63' 16' Jupiter.........Butchered

Thanks all, for the aluminum website and offers of pics. I'll need it all.

I was out taking those rod holders and fishfinder off, Did I mention that he mounted the transducer half way up the transom:D

This will be a floor and transom project also. I found some rot on both sides of the transom. I expect I'll find more.

It didn't come with an outboard, but I've got a 60 hp 87' Mariner that could go on it.

I also recently aquired a new old stock 25 hp 97 Johnson, wiring harness and new style control box. When I bought it, it was a trade in for a larger engine, and had only been uncrated about 4 months.

I've seen posts on here asking about what a 25 hp would do on a 16' SC. I'm sure it would be sufficient, and surely keep me out of trouble. I used to be able to plane out an old glass water logged bass boat with a 25, so i'm sure it would push this. Add on a Dolfin and I bet it'd get on plane. We just might see.;)

I forgot to mention that this will be a salt water used boat. I'm located in the souther most part of NC, on the coast. I'll primarily be using it in the intercoastal water way, to fish for sea trout, redfish, flounder doing some oyster harvesting, and setting some crab traps, Yeah, I eat good, if nothing else.:D

My buddy's got a shrimp boat, so I won't be dragging a net;)

Thanks Uxboat, for that information.

One thing I'm sure of is, Merc 25's are in a class of their own. I'll probably put the Johnson on mine when It's finished, just because I know it'll be dependable. I wouldn't be afraid to take it about 5 miles off shore on a good day.

I started on the transom today, under cover and in the rain.

From what I've read on here, it was a pretty straight forward job, I just ground off the heads of the bolts, and punched them through to the inside.

I first took off the corner caps and aluminum cap on the transom, It was just held in place with some twist shank nails, and the corners with some pop rivets.

Tomorrow when the rain stops and the deck dries up a bit, I'll get inside and see if the splash well that joins the transom has any hardware in it, then attempt to remove this wood in as close to one piece as I can.

Thanks, I'll do that.

I'll be applying that info to my transom in the morning, right after the rain stops.

Thanks again,

Bob

Transom's out. A very easy job on this particular boat. I just had to go under the splash well and remove the crews under there, then nudge the transom wood with a short handle hammer, 8#, but I think a 3# would do it.

The SC tag reads

Model 16' Jupiter
Serial number 61-8335
Max motor 80 hp

I'm located real close to Holden Beach, Supply NC to be exact.

Had to look up Youngsville NC. Your not far away at all. Bring that boat over and we'll splash them some day. Come on down to Wilmington and follow the signs to Brunswick county beaches. Much more layed back than the Wilmington area.

Re: 63' 16' Jupiter.........Butchered

Got up at 2 AM and started reading, It's now 4:30 AM, Went through Jims thread and Andy NY's thread.

I see all these used boats bought with older motors that run, which is a good thing, but I see things that should be done and are seriously neglected.

It's not neglect from lazyness, it's just that proper engne maintenance isn't known by the average boat enthusiast.

Boats are worked on and the engine sets ide for however long, gumming up carbs, and with a questionable water pump.

For the last 11 years I made a living repairing outboard motors. At age 50, a work related back injury put me out of the construction business. Thankfully the state if Fl had a retraining program that paid for a year long schooling in the marine tech business for me.

I'm lucky in the fact that I can do most any maintenance on my motors that need be. When I get a used motor, the first thing that 's done is a water pump. That is providing the engine checks out good, meaning spark and compression.

After that it's usually a fuel related issue that keeps it from running good, so a carb rebuild is usually in order, or whatever the fuel related issue might be.

After getting it where it needs to be, as far as running good, I drain the carbs and she'll be ready, when ever I need it.

I certainly don't know all there is to know. That's how I found this site. The techs here are top of the line.

Hey Bob, update your profile on here with your location. We Starcraft guys like to know where everyone is from.

How's that.

It was a short day on the boat. Just ripped off the carpet from the hull sides, and vacumed up the mess.

Next I'll get rid of the rivet stems that haven't come out yet, scuff up the interior and coat it.

Hey Bob, Never heard of Supply either but hey,There's a first time for everything. I don't get down to Wilmington often enough, usually out to Cape Lookout and Core sound for the peace and quite. Had a lot of kin in the Wilmington area back when...Dudley's. Been down to see the Dudley mansion a couple of times and wander around,No he didn't leave me a dime, just po' folks from NC. :D I would love to come down sometime and wet a line. Keep them pics coming! Steven
