Good afternoon,

i recently aquired the above engine from a fellow that never used it. He bought it 11 years ago and it has been sitting in his yard until last summer when i bought it.

i have run it 3 times now and the first two times, it worked like a champ! The last time i had it out it just wasn't quite right. It started without hesitation and i ran it for about an hour in total with a couple of stops and starts. Each time it started without issue and it sounded fine but the power just kept on decreasing to the point that i was afraid that i was going to be paddling.

When i got it home, i popped the cover off to find that one of the plug wires was not connected to the plug. i'm not sure if this happened during the trip there or home (it's a really rough ride) or if it just wiggled off the plug during the time out on the water (it wasn't a very tight fit). I also expected that a disconnected spark plug would cause the engine to run really rough.

i don't have a tub to test this engine in so i was hoping for confirmation that the disconnected spark plug wire would cause such a problem.

thanks in advance,
dean

The only way to see is run it in a barrel at home, or take it back to the lake...plug wire firmly on the plug. Most outboards will run with one plug undone, but not well.

Thanks for the reply. I suspect that i'll be heading back to the lake with my fingers crossed.

When you say "no well" what do you mean? This engine ran smooth mostly; it was a bit rough a couple of times but otherwise seemed to run smooth but the power/speed just gradually decreased.

thanks again,
dean
