I need to know where the shims go in relation to the reassembly.I don't have a service manual.Just a parts manual. When I dissasembled the gears, they were 2 shims and a washer between the gear housing cover and the carrier.I looked at the parts manual and It looks like there should be a shim behind the reverse gear and a shim behind the forward gear bearings. Are my shims not were they belong.I'll try to send a picture of them.

The shims are in there to set the gear mesh between F, R and the drive pinion. A repair manual will really help and you probably will need a special caliper to stick in the housing to measure the mesh. No telling on the picture in the parts list as to does the engine only use the two shown? If you only have 2 and one is shown behind each gear then I would assume that's where they go. If you have more or less then it's a toss which goes where and the instrument will be necessary.

The shims are for reverse gear mesh with the pinion.---I think they can only fit in one place , look close at this.---They fit on a " ledge " in the housing. Then install the carrier and you are done.
