Model 40402s, I have some unburnt fuel mix seeping from my front right hand starter motor mount bolt. The bolt runs through the intake manifold an maybe the reed block too... how bad is this?

When I purchased the motor there was a build up of sludge I thought was axle grease at the time... now I believe it to be what's left of evaporated fuel mix over a long period of time. So it seems this has been going on for a while.

Compression is 90psi per side... Any advice would be appreciated...

Not seeing what you are talking about, you could simply remove that one bolt and clean it with some degreaser and apply a sealant compound to it and replace it. That way it will not leak anymore and seal the leakage via the sealant. But like I stated, I don't know exactly what you have as a problem only your text to go by...

Sorry, the stainless bottom bracket on the Prestolite starter has 2 mounting bolts beneath the carburetor. The one on the right goes into the block. I think your idea of using sealant on the bolt might do the trick though.... What would you recommend using?

What you are seeing is not at all unusual. People remove and reinstall the starter and don't apply sealer to the bolts. The holes go through into the crankcase and will leak if not sealed. Take them out and clean them and glop onto the threads, some Permatex Non-hardening sealant #2.

UPDATE:

My local Maslack didn't have the Permatex #2, they did however have the Permatex MotoSeal Ultimate Gasket Maker Grey and it worked great!

No more leak, thanks guys!
