'64 Johnson 5.5 HPGearcase Oil leaking from prop shaft

After filling oil in gearcase I see it is leaking from the prop shaft, precisely where the shaft emerges from the gearcase. It is about an ounce a day for the last few days. I have the rebuild kit, but I cannot not find a clear enough diagram instruction in the parts manual or the Seloc manual. Is this just a case of openning the gearcase, putting the o ring and seal in and resealing it with the new gasket. Should a sealer be used with it and what type? Thanks.

Yes, pretty much that's it. Drain the oil, pull off the skeg. The prop shaft will then come out. The seal is at the end of the shaft. You should replace the spaghetti seal around the skeg also and use the OMC brush on sealant to seal it when you put it back on. Also use new washers when replacing the screws when you refill the oil.

Here is a pic of the 10hp LU. It is basically the same. Sorry it's so small but I'm limited to a 97kb upload so I had to shrink it.

#24, 47 and 48 are what you want to replace.
