I recently bought a 1950's Duo with a 1964 40 hp johnson engine. The boat had been ran less than a year ago, and ran perfectly. I have tested conductivity from the magnetos to the points and from the points to the condensers and so on to the ends of the plug wires (it all checks out.) My father and I cleaned all of the points and the electric transfur surfaces (ex: fly wheel). The engine rolls over with the starter, so there is no problem with my battery initiated operation. I have been told the problem may be due to a "prime" switch located on the right hand side of the engine. what should i do now?

oh, and my model # RSD-26S
and my serial # 2411541 thanks

Does it have spark at the plugs? Pour a little fuel down the sparkplug hole and then replace plug and see if she fires?

Try spraynig WD-40 in the carb while turning it over rather than the fuel in the cylinder. WD-40 burns in the cylinder and will lubricate at the same time.

Does it have spark????? If it only has spark to one cylinder swap the ignition coils and try again. If the spark reverses then change that coil.

What did you set the points to? If they are set right I would suspect bad ignition coil. If you did not torque the flywheel properly you could have spun it and sheared the key which will throw your timing off.
