I want to go and see the above mentioned motor. Its about 2 hrs. away in WI but he is only asking $200. I have seen pics, and it is not a show queen, but it doesn't look too badly abused over the years. He says it runs good. Says the prop has no power, like the pin is sheared. Said they were out on the water when the prop lost power.

Wife doesn't want me to go and see it, I think it may be a great deal.

$200 ain't gonna break the bank either way, and I don't go out too far. Just some smaller lakes and such.

Whats you guys opinions on this particular Johnson? How do I check the shear pin? Just a large Cresent wrench?

I live just over the border by Antioch, "The Chain". I would keep looking myself as 1960's Johnson and Evinrude 30-35hp are all over the place and I'm sure you would be able to find a nice running one for not much more money.

Don't understand what he means by "the prop lost power" but that would be a red flag for me. Did the lower unit go bad or did the powerhead?

Again these engines are plentiful around here if you look and nice ones can still be found.

I would go check it out. I saw the add and the pictures and it comes with the tiller handle. I believe it's a '65, I don't think Johnson made a 33 in 1964.

It's possible the pin is sheared or the prop hub is spun. It could also be an adjustment on the shift rod.

If it's a good runner (and he says it is), and all the parts are there, I think $200 is pretty reasonable. You could always find a lower unit on ebay later and bolt it up.

I was thinking of checking it out, but I just bought a '64 18 HP less than a month ago. My wife wouldn't be too happy with me.
