64 Starcraft 14' Fiberglass

Im starting a build and since I see very few, if any, Fiberglass Starcrafts, I thought I would post mine. I saw an ad on CL last October. New floors, new transom, update electronics and on an on for 1500 including trailer. Knowing very little about boats, I went over to take a look. The boat was scuffed up kind of bad. Scratches and gouges, 1 pea sized hole and cracks underneath both chines with the passenger side having some sort of plastic repair. The motor is a 71 Johnson 50hp. Of course I was told the boat is in awesome shape but there was almost no way in Hell I was going to buy it. My gf told me to call her dad since he knows a little about boats and was told by him that fiberglass repairs are easy and to buy it. Long story short I bought it for $300.

The chine repair area has gone from this to this.. all the way to this Every inch of wood was saturated and rotten. The previous owner repaired the wood in the chine but it was a poopy repair. Not sure how to fix it. Any tips are much appreciated.

Welcome aboard! If the chine looks that bad, is the transom solid? Either way, $300 is a nice price!

Transom is solid. I ground down a few areas that had that same plastic stuff covering things up and the wood is solid. I will say that now that I have had a while to look at this boat, you can see the area where the transom was installed and feathered out. Another thing I noticed was the wood from the chine went from 1 inch in front of the transom all the way up to drivers area. There was a hole inside near the drivers waist that was open to anything that may have entered the boat. So what is the correct repair procedure for this area? Unfortunatly I cant tell if the wood filled the entire cavity or it had an area to expand if needed.

Well the brochure states the wood strakes / chines were 1 1/4" x 1 5/8" so I guess Ill measure and cut some boards. Glass and fill. The other side has the same tell tale hairline crack, barely noticeable, that the drivers side had, fortunately none of the glass fell away as I ground it out. Hope the other side isnt the same way, Im scared to take a drill and drill some exploratory holes. Is this boat even worth repairing or is it too much work? Its not like I want to sink thousands upon thousands into it before I can have any use out of it.
