i picked this motor up from a buddy. unfortunatly he could not remember what was wrong with the motor. it runs, has 60/60 compression dead even.
problem, at low idle there is this annoying squeal. i dont know why, dropped the lu, and still squeals. so is this a bearing? thats my only guess.
thanks

Nice little motor. It's hard to tell from the video but it looks like the flywheel could be bent ?

Think I would pop the flywheel off first, and check for any rubbing. Someone may have replaced one of the coils, and didn't flush mount the coil to the edges on the mag plate.

yes i thought so too. pulled the fw, and nothing is rubbing. fw is smooth. on the good side, yes it has new coils, wires, points and condensers (that will be used on my 51 :) )

Re: 65 evinrude 9522c god awful squeal

I watched / listened to your video a few times, that sounds like something external to me. I know your using the rope pull to start the motor but I can see the pull starter. I froze the video at :40, it looks like the pull starter drive gear is stuck up and engaged on the flywheel. If that's not causing the god awful noise and it is a bearing, wouldn't a bearing make more noise with higher RPMs not less?

yes thank you for that observation. the squeal goes away at a higher revs. it does sound like a external rub somewhere. that is why i posted the vid hoping one of the experts may have had this problem somewhere along the line.

i am stumped. i have already pulled the points and condensers and coils (actually the other is a 52/53) but have left the rest intact. maybe i will dig into this a little more after i get the 52/53 going.

thanks again
