65 Johnson 18 hp cowl replacements

I have a Johnson 18 hp 1965 where the inside rear latch is mostly missing and the front hook latch is also busted. I read on this forum where the cowls for this motor up to 1970 will work as a replacement on this motor.

Can someone verify this for me please.

By the way this is a great running motor and I'm pleased it has a starter on it too.

It looks like a good chance. The 18, 20 and 25 were basically the same through 76 or 77. Rick

I have the same '65 18hp. (and the '66 20hp which are interchangable). My rear latch also was busted when I got it. I was able to fashion a new one. I could post a pic of it if you want as it's out in the garage now. My front was weak but was holding though. I have never tried to make a front one but I'm sure it's possible also.
