Hi Guys Have I missed something I need to change the impeller on my Johnson 65, I have removed the gear link bolt the 7/16" trim tab bolt, the 1/2 bolt under the trim tab, the 5/8 bolt to the rear of the trim tab, and the 4 9/16" bolts that connect the gearbox to the exhaust housing. But the gearbox has stayed put, I have tryed to gentley prize and tap the gearbox with a rubber mallett it has moved about 3/8", I don't wamt to use to much forct and damage something. The engine had not been used for years and then only light use, I would be greatfull of any help Jon

Check again to be sure that the pin has released the shift rod at the floor of the engine compartment. If the gearcase were in reverse, you should be able to see the top of the rod.

The driveshaft may be locked in the crankshaft at the top due to rust. Have you run the motor recently? Sometimes just a little rotation will be enough to break the bond. Try taking the plugs out and have someone turn the flywheel while you move the gearcase gently from side to side and back to front.

Great! When you put it back, a little moly lube [pn 175356] on the sides of the splines and a new o-ring at the base of the splines should keep the water out and make it easier for the next time.
