650 lower unit, can't remember where this part goes

got my seal and gasket kit today, layed out all of the parts and can't remember where this one goes. 1964 650 haven't been able to find a book on it yet because it is to old. anyways it is a shim that is split like a lock washer but the ends are even. .025 thick, 1.382" od,.990 id. by looking at the witness marks it was on something that spins. drawing a blank here:confused:

Sounds like the snap ring which secures the driveshaft ball bearing (the one under the pump body) to the driveshaft. If you look there should be a groove in the driveshaft, right above the inner race of the bearing, that the snap ring fits into.

If that's not it, post a small pic of the part if you can and that should help identify it.

no, the snap ring is still on the shaft, never removed it. this is far too thin to be any tipe of retainer. only 25 thousandths thick and the difference between id and od is 3/16". i need to get my kid to help upload a picture. thanks
