65hp evinrude drops dead after short full throttle?

guys i have checked everything so far. this motor has no points to check, the coils look good excet one has a crack in the outer casing and i am getting fuel to the fuel pump and have removed it but dont know how to check it? my next step is a carb rebuild. am i missing something? anyone know whats causing this problem? runs good at low speed and idle just drops dead after a short high throttle run then after a few seconds starts back up and does it all over again? the only thing i have done is replace a waterpump since it ran perfect last and it sat over the winter. any help would be greatly appriciated?

Tony.. Check to make sure the vent on the fuel tank is clear and open... <br /><br />You also may want to try to run the engine off of a small portable fuel tank to help isolate any problems with the current fuel tank... <br /><br />I had a fuel tank that caused the very same problem of which you speak... Turns out, the pick-up tube inside the fuel tank was pulling in air at the top where the fuel fitting goes thru the tank...

snapperbait we have tried 2 tanks and both with the same result. any other idea's?

i'd check the carb, around the float & jet. she's getting food, just not enough to kep up with a bug hunger. else maybe a hole or plug in the fuel pump.<br /><br />Good Luck

I have the fuel pump off but dont see any problem with it. although dont really know what to look for. the carbs are next inline.

When it "drops dead" is it locked up or will it still turn over but not start?

It still turns over and will restart and go again in just a few seconds.

just rechecked the compression and were at 155,150,150 on the cylinders. The gas line will not pump up hard. seems that the problem could be in the fitting or the seals in the carb. does this sound like the problem. motor starts right up and idles smoothly even like this. however havent test run but am sure the problem lies in these area's. I am going to replace the whole fuel tank and hose and connectors and then see if the ball will pump up hard. will let you know what I find out.
