Re: 65hp on old glasspar tacoma
I own a 1964 Glaspar Tacoma, Mine has a 20" transom which measures about 21" top to bottom. A transom which measures 17" usually requires a 15" or short shaft motor, but many 20" shaft motors have multiple mounting holes which allow you to adjust the height.
My boat came to me with only a 40hp Merc on it, I hung a 55hp Johnson and it's more than enough, but I have seen the same or the very similar Avalon model with as much as 100 hp on it.
Do you have any pics of your Tacoma? They are pretty rare here in NJ, it seems that most of the Glaspar boats in this size range are Avalon models. Mine was brought here from WA, by way of MS, IL, and DE somewhere along the way. (I found old registrations in the boat from previous owners). Mine has had a complete floor replacement done prior to me getting it, I would be curious to see how it looked before the changes were made. I know they lowered the floor and changed the seating arrangement. I am looking at setting it up for lake and river fishing with a smaller motor since it's so light.
It's one of the lightest 16' boats I've seen yet, it's even lighter than my 16' Starcraft Aluminum hull of the same closed bow style.
Does yours have two drain plugs? Is there inside access to the lower bilge?
Right or left hand drive?
