I just bought this engine for 300.00 the guy said he hadn't ran it in 3 years, seemed t be a pretty honest guy so I went for it. I got it mounted thanks to some helpful forum members gave it new plugs new type C L/U oil and brought it to the lake for a quick test run.

She fired up before I even had a chance to choke it!!!! AMAZING!!

Gave it a quick run around the lake and she pushed my 1971 Steury Craft about 33MPH.

Brought it home dumped the L/U oil and I have a milk shake. I'm not to disappointed she ran real well and hopefully I can get this taken care of and have a great running engine.

I have milky oil dripping out of a small almost pin sized hole in the bottom front of the cavitation plate and dripping on the propeller... Any idea what seals could be involved????

I also plan on doing a impeller job if not complete water pump.

Any tips before I start this would be greatly appreciated!

The first thing I would do is drain it and replace the little seals on the fill/drain plugs. That is usually where they let water in.

Good advice from a fellow fireman, I work just outside of Lansing MI. The seals will be replaced on the screws, but that wouldn't give me oil draining out of the hole in the cavitation plate would it??

I used to be a volunteer fireman out here in the sticks but don't have the knees for it anymore. I would start with those seals and then see what comes out the weep hole. There is a spaghetti seal in the lower unit and a couple others but the fill/drain screws are usually the main culprit. If you decide to drop the lower unit you might as well change the impeller and those seals while you are there. The cost is minimal.
