66 fastwin carb flooding

i have a 66 evinrude fastwin 18 horse power. i believe the carb is flooding. should i just beable to rebuild the carb or do i need a new one. will start up after sitting a while, but then if you kill it, it won't start again. plus it boggs down at full throttle. can i just get a rebuild kit from like autozone.

Hi Hendrick<br /> Yes the carb can be repaired. It more than likely just needs to be cleaned. You will need to remove it and disassemble it. I suggest that you get a manual to do this and some other maintainence tasks. If you need parts try your OMC dealer or maybe Napa dealer. I don't know if auto zone deals with this stuff, if they do, great. Let us know how you make out.

also, what are the signs of the impellar needing to be replaced.

Hi Headrick<br /> Over heating. The water pump empeller ia a rubber vaned afair. The vanes tend to wear. They also take a set (stay bent)or start to crack, become less flexable. They will also detatch from thier hub. Thus the hub rotates but the vanes don't. Your water pump should be inspected annually at least.

check NAPA for carb rebuild kits. I just found a kit for my 1956 15hp evinrude fastwin fro less than $13.00. I hope this helps...
