1966 johnson 6hp sea horse model#cd 23 e Ok heres my problem the motor will start and idle fine and i give it gas and it dies. Restart it and pull the choke out and it will rev up then you can push in the choke about half way in so the choke is half on and all of a sudden the motor revs real high like its normal so i push the choke in and it will run for about 3 seconds and slowly die out. Pull the choke out and it will rev up again i have put a new carb kit in same thing so i tore it down again i see nothing wrong it all looks good and clean. any help is much appreciated thanks.

The carburetor is fouled. Remove, clean, and rebuild it. Carb kits available on this site, any dealership, NAPA, Sierra, Marine stores, etc.

Re: 66 johnson 6 hp help!!!

There is a brass high speed jet located in the center bottom portion of the float chamber. Fuel must flow thru that jet before it can gain access to any other fuel passageway. Solvent really doesn't get that jet thoroughly clean.

If you didn't manually clean that jet with a piece of single strand steel wire, do so.
