I am just wondering how much water I should see shooting out the back of my motor when first started. Saw some but not a garden hose flow. Thanks

Your engine doesn't really have a telltale. You will see water spitting out of the exhaust hole in the exhaust housing. Have you checked your overheat indicator for proper operation?

Thanks for the info. It does have an overheat indicator light in the dashboard. Didn't come on while on the lake. Hope the light works. I should probably change the impeller over the winter since I don't know when it was changed last.

The amount of flow out the blowhole on the backside constantly changes according to whether the thermostat is open or closed. The thermostat is constantly checking the water temp and opening or closing as required to maintain the temp. So that means the water you see being discharged is also constantly changing. But it is never "garden hose".

It also varies with boat speed.

Ground the sensor wire at block, with key on, and see if your light comes on. If not, you might want to check electrical system to get light working.

I pulled the sensor out on my 67' and tried to hot water test it on the stove, the temperature trigger is engraved on the side of it, mine is 220. couldn't get water on stove hot enough to trigger it? held a bic lighter to it and bingo. i don't know why it would be a 220 sensor unless somebody put the wrong one in there at some point so I don't rely on it.
