66 Mercury Inline 6 Prop assembly

I just got this engine, it's a mercury 1966 6 cyl inline, all the parts were given to me in a box, I have the prop, a thrust bearing, a lock washer and the lock nut, the problem is the thrust washer, it is coned and as such it fits both ways, does the cone end face the boat or other way around? To me it looks like the cone end fits inside the prop, but what do I know

Far as I can tell there is taper on the prop shaft where the thrust washer sits. Taper on the inside of the thrust washer sits on that taper...
