I own a 33 hp Superseahorse model rx 16d that has been fitted with a electric starter and generator. I now have the opportunity to purchase a electramatic lower end. I am wondering what the advantages / disadvantages are.

can't simply switch out lower units. Might be possible to convert and use your manual powerhead on an electramatic motor, if the electramatic is otherwise intact, but probably no reason to do that if you have a good manual runner.

just separate animals. Both good systems. If the electric lower unit is available, might grab it for future reference -- use it when someone gives up on their electramatic motor. Most people know their way around a manual model, not so much the electramatic. (also need the shift box if putting a rig together).

thanks for the response. I was just wondering if there was a good reason for me to make the change IE; smoother shifting or more durable, but if there is no great advantage then I will stay with what I have , maybe purchase a complete 40hp electramatic, sometime in the future thanks again

The electric shift motors are very good.---But your 33 can not be fitted with an electric shift lower unit.---And the 33 powerhead does not fit on an electric shift 40 hp midsection either !!

oh, oh. sorry for misleading, todd. Was thinking though, the electramatic powerheads are probably more available than the lower units -- so an available electric l.u. might be a good item to get and hang on to for future reference. Might be able to put together a nice rig cheaply at some point.
