Well, I got the lower end back on and the head on. Approaching completion. My thermostat fits into a plastic sleeve which has a rubber flat washer under it and some sort of check valve. The washer was installed pinched from factory and don't think I will find one. Anything wrong with replacing it with an O ring?

I don't see why not. But that gasket should be available.

Not finding one, guess I will go with an O ring.

Thank's DHPMARINE! I was thinnking about something else in regard to that gasket. I would'nt try an O-ring on the cover. That gasket would not be hard to make.

I have a spare if you need one DHP. Came with the '65 salvage head I bought. Marys - the O ring is not for the cover but rather under the plastic sleeve the thermostat drops into.
