67 Johnson is almost there....

I have been working on this motor, and it is finally running. You guys have been a tremendous help and have saved me time and money.

I have only one issue remaining, and then I will stop pestering. While the starter is running the motor backfires quite loudly. There is obviously something not quite right. After the motor gets running however, it purrs along pretty well. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I think it will work. Any thought on the backfiring?

your guess is as good as mine (pictures). Other forum experts have guessed 67 johnson fd-21 20hp. ID tag is gone.
