I have had the motor for 2 years. As far as I can tell, there was little to no maintenance done by previous owners.

I have just rebuilt my carbs, rejetted (I live at 5,000 feet and frequently boat at 9,000), and replaced the water pump impeller. We checked compression, and have 100-105 in every cylinder.

The old impeller looked fine. There was a lot of sand in the lower unit, but I doubt it had been opened for a LONG time.

I have not taken the boat out on the water yet. After getting the motor running with the flush attachment on I noticed I am not seeing the tell tale. Water and exhaust exit through the prop hub. I remember the tell tale working on the water in the past. I did some reading here, and it looks like there is no tstat for the older motors. My garden hose pressure is very high - over 50. I also read something that seemed to say that with high hose pressure the pump doesnt need to work hard, so there might not be a tell tale. Should I see the tell tale using the flush attachment? Do I have a problem? Should I try it on the water? Maybe try it with the hose faucet turned down?

Also, is it easy to add a water pressure gauge to this motor? What about a temperature warning?

Thanks for your help!
Randy in Denver.
