took out today and was going down the river and suddenly the motorstarted to rev high and we lost all speed dramatically. Did we per chance strip somthing out in the lower unit. Still trying to figure out how to hook up the shift interrupt switch. Looked in seloc manuel and it said to ground one end to - side of iginitioin coil and ground the other lead on the started mounting bracket but the wires arent long enough. Does it matter where you ground it out as long as its grounded? Would not having the shift interrupt switch hooked up caused what ever it is to strip out in the lower unit?

The interrupter switch would only make it hard to get out of gear, you have lost a coupling, upper ser of gears or broken a drive shaft. Take the 4 bolts out of the top fo the upper gear hsg, and take a look if the gears look OK, shift it in forford and try to turn the prop counter clockwise if the upper gears turn then its a coupling, if they don't the problems in the lower unit
