I have adjusted the gear shift adjustment to manual specs but pops nandout of gear. (Watched the adjustment rod bounce rapidly). It will stay in gear at idle but no faster. :(
What causes this?
Also the gear oil is cream color only after running for 4 hrs.
Are the two problems related?
Thanks
Rod

Hi Leatherhave
It sounds like you have water intrusion in your L/U. Since that model uses a hydro/elect. shift, I'd say the odds were pretty good that there is some relation. I would suggest you vacuume and presure test your L/T to find where the leak is. If it turns out to be more than filler plug gaskets, go ahead and replace all seals. Don't forget to test the elect. system as well.

Not sure what hydro/elect is.OMC manual says nothing about it. I believe it to be just manual gear shift linkage.
Can a bad shift dog create this problem?

Thanks again
Rod

I have a '70 40hp and need to disassemble the lower unit also; is there a special way to remove the lower half of that unit...it looks like there are alignment pins between the upper and lower halves. I don't know the difference between Hydro and Electric Shift, but mine has electric clutches for the forward and reverse gears.

if you have 2 cables it isent a eletric shift .
i have a 66 33hp.it is a manuel shift it has a small foot that seprates the bottom half no puller needed . if it is a thrugh prop hub exzoust comes out the poller will be needed .
when i got the 33 it would jump out of foward and reverse . i pulled the foot there was looseness in th shift rod and when i pulled the poweer head the rod was loose at the top . papasage
