Another durned flywheel question. Sorry.

I need to replace the flywheel on a '68 55 hp Evinrude (part #580686) (motor model #55872R). The former owner gnawed the teeth off.

I have a lead on a '69 55 hp Evinrude flywheel (motor model #55972A), flywheel part #580783.

Can anyone tell me if these two flywheels are intechangeable? They look remarkably similar on the brp parts diagrams, but what I need is a word from the experts who have done this before.

Are there other model years or flywheels that would interchange with my '68?

Thanks,
Ken

According to the interchange book, 580686 fits only the '68 55hp. The fact that the part numbers are different means that there is a difference in the parts, but I don't know offhand what that difference is.

Ken,
What is the casting number on the underside of your flywheel? I may have one here...

Scott - I haven't pulled it yet. I will try to borrow a puller soon and reply with the casting number. Thanks.
