I have a 40 HP evinrude '68 vintage; the shaft stripped inside the crank. the splines are totally gone; I found another shaft for 50 bucks and put things back together, there is a minimal amount of play on the shaft in the crank. do you think the crank is okay. someone advised me to use JB Weld on splines when re-assembling. I didn't in case I need to replace impeller again. i have an oil drip from L.U. Can I use permatex on the flanges and the o'rings?

Tom.... In all probability, the crankshaft splines are worn also. If so, and you decide to replace the crank, and have a problem locating one, I have one new one left in my remaining stock. (ReevesJ32@aol.com)

JOE, THANKS BUT I PROBABLY WONT GET THAT INVOLVED IN THE REPAIR. IF THIS SHAFT DOES THE SAME I'LL GIVE THE MOTOR TO A NEIGHBOR WHO WANTS TO PART IT OUT....
