'68 Evinrude not shifting

Rewired the wiring harness..we have forward...had neutral 2 or 3 times and reverse once...someone told us the problem is in the lower unit...a "plunger" might be clogged or the magnets might need replaceing.....any ideas?

The electric shift involves two wires.<br />On a 69 85hp it is green and blue.<br /><br />Green is neutal, blue is reverse.<br /><br />Sort of <br /><br />To get Neutral supply +12V to the green wire.<br />To get Reverse, supply +12V to BOTH wires.<br /><br />If getting the electrics right doesn't solve your problem, then it is time to<br />drop the lower unit. From there you probably want to have access to a<br />manual.<br /><br />Mike
