I just got this 9.5 through some trading.

First, where does the water come out from cooling the engine? I want to check the water pump in a barrel.

Next, Where does the exhaust exit? I see the exhaust port on the back of the motor and under the cowl. Is this the only place it escapes?

How can you tell if the motor mounts are shot? I can move the motor about a half an inch in any direction, but it is not sloppy.

Which motor mounts go out, the ones within the cowl or the ones just above the lower unit?

What are the problems surrounding the motor mounts being bad? Will the motor quit performing?

I can't believe with a bad motor mount that someone cannot just wedge something between the outside case and the motor itself.

Thanks for helping me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,this forum is awesome and has many good poeple willing to help.

The water will exit the motor through the exhaust port as a "light spray". the exhaust port is the hole you mentioned about mid way done the back of the leg. Bad motor mounts can cause trouble but they don't sound to bad on your motor given the age. The mounts under the power head cowl are the most important. Wedging something under them would probably work if you don't mind the vibration from the motor.

So,,,,,,,,,,,,,what are the symptoms of the water pump not working properly?

Say I am out on the lake fishing..............is there anything that would tell me hey, the water pump is not functioning propery?

What are the signs that the motor has overheated?

Thanks again!

When the motor is running, look at the exhaust housing port and see if there is a spray of water coming out. If there is, the impeller system is working and you should be able to hold your finger on the head while it's running for a few seconds without getting burnt, if not, shut the motor off and get yourself an impeller kit. They're not difficult to install but, if you had the service manual for that motor, it would help you a lot. Take a look at the head to see if there is signs of heating, like peeling paint. If there is, install a new impeller kit. Do not run the motor for more than 60 seconds if there is no spray coming out. An overheated motor can be very expensive to repair not to mention stranding you on the water.
